STUDYING DECORATIVE ROCKS IN UBRIQUE'S STREETS
(February 11th and 13th, 2007)

Our streets look like a geological museum becase there are lots of rocks from all over the world.

The rock on the left is a marble. It shows layers and folds which were formed when the rock was underground and suffered a high pressure. So, marble is a metamorphic rock.

We can see fossils in limestones like these ammonites and belemnites which lived  at the sea 200 million years ago.
The rocks from the granite group contain different types of minerals and they are usually big. They are plutonic rocks formed in the magmatica chamber where magma cools very slowly. These conditions allow the minerals to reach a size of several centimetres.
