STUDENT EXCHANGE WITH SWEDEN

 

GUESTS AND HOST STUDENTS AT THE SCHOOL

The Swedish ISGR/IHGR students arrived to Málaga on April 16th at 4:30 p.m., were greeted by Josefina Herrera, Head of the English Department of the school of Ubrique, and then they travelled by bus to Ubrique, where they were greeted by their host families.

On Sunday most of the guest students attended the Car Race that took place in Ubrique.

On Monday, on the first day of school, the guest students were welcomed by the Principal of Ntra. Sra. de los Remedios High School, Juan Coronel. The Spanish Teacher accompaning the group, Linette Irigoyen, gave an speech thanking for their hospitality and gave him presents from the ISGR/IHGR school principals.

Later the stutends continued with normal classes, they had a conference by the Ubrique's History teacher, Francisca Paredes, about the Arabs in Spain.

In the afternoon, they visited the old town of Ubrique. It was raining, but they had a great walk up the hilly streets, and enjoyed the beautiful view of the town.

 

On Tuesday, the students visited Sevilla, where they could see the Romans Ruins, "Itálica", the city, the cathedral ,where Cristopher Columbus is buried and La Giralda "Tower", where they could appreciate the view from Sevilla. After lunch, they visited the Alcázares Palace, where they were enthusiastic to see the wonderful  Arabs art and its architecture.

On Wednesday, the students attended normal classes. At 1:00 p.m. there was a presentation about Sweden and the Vikings given by the ISGR/IHGR teachers. Linette Irigoyen, Spanish teacher, talked about Sweden, then they watched a film about Gothenburg and Sweden, followed by an interactive activity about  the Vikings, prepared by Chad Towe, Humanities teacher.

On Thursday, the guest students travelled to the Pileta Cave, a prehistoric cave from the Stone Age (30,000 years old) where they could appreciate the drawing made by the cave men. A unique opportunity for the students to be able to see it. They were much impressed by the size and the paintings of the cave.

After that the students went to Ronda and enjoyed the city where they visited the bullfight ring and the bullfight museum.

On the way home, they visited the pictoresque town of Grazalema where they walked through its narrow streets.

 

On Friday, the students attended normal classes, and at 1:00 p.m. they had a conference by the Ubrique's history teacher, José Luis Mancilla.

The afternoon they spent with their host families, and in the evening, they are planning to attend a Spanish Peña Flamenca, where they can enjoy Spanish flamenco music and dance.

We are glad to inform that all the students are happy and enjoying their stay at Ubrique. They are practising their Spanish, meeting new friends, glad with their families and at school, and enjoying a wonderful weather. (28ºC) :-)
